William Langer graduated from UND in 1906 and had a long career in politics. He was North Dakota Attorney General from 1917 until 1920 and served twice as Governor: from 1933 to 1934 and from 1937 until 1939. Elected to the United States Senate in 1941, he served until his death in 1959.

This letter dated January 3, 1950, from United States (US) Senator William Langer to Frank Fox references Fox's earlier correspondence concerning his eviction from his property, and refers to an enclosed copy of a wire Langer has received from Fort Berthold Agency Superintendent R.W. Quinn regarding the matter. Langer regrets “that this report isn’t more favorable at this time” and promises to write again when he has more information.
The copy of the wire from Quinn was not found with this letter in Langer's papers.

Letter from Senator Langer to General Lewis Pick Regarding Discrimination at the Garrison Dam Project, May 25, 1950

This letter dated May 25, 1950, from United States (US) Senator William Langer to US Major General Lewis A. Pick, outlines R.D. Kollman’s claim of discrimination in employment at the Garrison Dam project. The letter quotes Kollman’s claim that residents of North Dakota have a difficult time procuring employment at the Garrison Dam project while “there is no trouble for an outsider to get employment.” Kollman’s contention extends to those in labor unions where “union gangster organizers are standing right there.” Langer calls for Pick’s attention to Kollman’s claims and asks Pick for his advice with the situation.

This letter dated April 19, 1950, from United States (US) Senator William Langer to Executive Director of North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission John B. Hart, states that Langer has contacted Commissioner of US Bureau of Indian Affairs John R. Nichols asking that Nichols respond to Hart’s March 27, 1947 telegram concerning whether the Bureau plans to buy land outside of the Fort Berthold Reservation. Langer writes that he has “contacted Mr Nichols in an endeavor to see what can be done to help you with this matter.”
The letter is marked with the handwritten annotations “Indians,” “Interior,” and “N. Dak. Indian Affairs Com.”

Hart marks the receipt of Hart’s correspondence which Langer was “delighted to receive.” The letter states Langer was glad to help Hart with the purchase of land outside of the exterior boundaries of the Fort Berthold Reservation and he wishes there was more he could do. The letter concludes with Langer offering future help to Hart and wishing Hart well. The letter is marked with the handwritten annotation "Fort Berthold Indian Reservation."

This letter dated March 13, 1950, from United States (US) Senator William Langer to John Hunts Along of the Fort Berthold Reservation, informs Hunts Along that Three Affiliated Tribes member Martin Cross delivered Hunt Along's letter regarding the treatment at the state hospital in Jamestown, North Dakota that Hunt Along's son, Kenneth Hunts Along, has been receiving. Cross requested that Langer take the issue up with the US Indian Commissioner (John R. Nichols), and Langer indicates that he has done that and will reply to Hunts Along soon.

Letter from Senator Langer to Lyle Johnson Regarding Non-Indian Property Owners Living on Indian Lands, June 12, 1950

This letter dated June 12, 1950, from United States (US) Senator William Langer to Lyle Johnson, marks the receipt of previous correspondence between Langer and Johnson and follows up with a report concerning the rights of non-Indian property owners on Indian lands. Within the letter, Langer quotes from the report of Area Director of Indian Affairs Paul Flicker, who finds that the responsibility of the settlement of non-Indian claims on Indian lands should fall to the US Department of the Army. Citing Fickner, Langer relays to Johnson that “it appears'' for non-Indian property owners ”the permittees in Sanish and Van Hook have no cause for action against the Three Affiliated Tribes.” Citing Flicker’s report, Langer notes that the remaining townsites were withdrawn from further disposition by order of the Secretary of the Interior in accordance with US 48 Stat. 984, although records do not show if “full restoration to tribal ownership was ever consummated.” The letter concludes with Langer saying he will write to Johnson when more information becomes available from the US Corps of Engineers.

This letter dated March 11, 1950, from United States (US) Senator William Langer to Mountrail County Extension Agent M.A. Kirkeide refers to their previous correspondence regarding the lack of food and clothing on the Fort Berthold Reservation. Langer refers to an enclosed report from Carlyle D. Onsrud, Executive Director of the Public Welfare Board of North Dakota, in response to Langer's forwarding of Kirkeide’s January 30, 1950 letter alerting Langer of the situation on the reservation. Langer writes that it was a pleasure to be of assistance to Kirkeide.
The report mentioned as enlosed was not found with this letter in Langer's papers.
Langer's letter is marked with the handwritten annotations “Fort Berthold Indian Res.” and “N Dak Pub Welfare Bd.”

Strieter of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chicago, Langer makes reference to their prior correspondence regarding efforts to prevent the execution of convicted Nazi war criminal Martin Sandberger.
Langer writes that he has received word from Senator Joseph McCarthy that the Nuremberg cases will not be investigated due to a lack of jurisdiction. Langer expresses his regrets that the news is not more favorable.
