Artist Bio
Anyck Alvarez Kerloch was born in 1957. She is originally from Canada and now lives and works in Vigo, Spain. She holds a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal and studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Vigo, along with silkscreen at EMAO in Vigo. She works mainly in acrylic, and also in oil and drawing, often on Ingres paper for its deep blacks and soft surface. Her work is largely figurative, though she moves toward abstraction at times, usually through drawing. Living by the sea has made it a recurring subject, along with the human figure, flowers, and nature. She works on several pieces at once and sets aside the ones that stall, sometimes for months. Paintings she cannot resolve are often painted over and become the ground for new work, so the earlier picture stays underneath. She has exhibited in Canada and Spain.
