Abstract

The University of North Dakota Entrepreneurship Department will honor College of Business and Public Administration Dean Dennis Elbert and College alumnus Tommy Leikas at its Hall of Fame and Changemakers Induction Ceremony on Thursday, September 26.

The ceremony will take place at the Center for Innovation Idea Lab from 4:30-7 p.m.

Majors in entrepreneurship also will receive their departmental pins and learn about their major and pathway to success.

At the ceremony, Elbert will be honored as an "entrepreneurship changemaker" for his substantial contributions to the entrepreneurial environment in North Dakota. Elbert announced that he will step away from his position as dean of the UND Business College in 2014 to take a position on the UND Entrepreneurship Department faculty.

Also, former UND entrepreneurship student Tommy Leikas will be inducted into the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. Leikas started his career at UND in 2006 as a basketball player, but ended up giving up his last two years of eligibility to develop his first business venture.

In June 2012, Leikas launched a high-end skincare and beauty company called "Glisten." In June, his venture secured $1 million in angel capital investments to grow his internet-based shopping website.

Now located in downtown Fargo, Leikas has developed, operated and sold several Internet shopping sites, including his most recent venture TopHoops.com.
