UND Educational Leadership to host first ever ‘Weaving Warrior’ conference Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26-27

Abstract

The University of North Dakota Department of Educational Leadership, part of the College of Education and Human Development, will host the first ever "Weaving Warriors: North Dakota Women in Education Leadership" conference, Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26-27, in the UND Memorial Union.

The conference will bring together a host of women administrators and leaders in education, health and family, politics and business from across the state. The conference will address questions such as "What is 'Weaving Warriors?,'" and "Who are these women in North Dakota?," and "What is the status of women in North Dakota?"

According to organizers, the conference is intended to acknowledge the historical significance of women in building "legendary North Dakota," recognize the impact of women warriors weaving the present agenda for North Dakota progress, honor the contributions and work of women warriors in educational leadership, and envision a future where equality is a given.

"The Weaving Warriors conference acknowledges and honors those leadership contribution that have created a legendary North Dakota," said Dr. Loretta DeLong, assistant professor of educational leadership and coordinator of the conference.

Some of the guest speakers and panelists for the conference include Dr. Ellen Chaffee, former president of Mayville State and Valley City State Universities and onetime lieutenant governor candidate in the state of North Dakota; Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota superintendent of public instructions; and Dr. Cynthia Lindquist, president of Candeska Cikana Community College in Fort Totten, along with a number of faculty members of the UND Educational Leadership Department.

The Department of Educational Leadership offers five degree options: M.Ed., M.S., Specialist Diploma, Ed.D., and Ph.D. Approximately 150 students are enrolled in the department with varied backgrounds and experiences to enhance the peer learning and engage forward thinking.
