Abstract

Students majoring in Operations and Supply Chain Management at the UND College of Business & Public Administration ranked among the best in the nation winning 3 rd place in the 2017 General Motors/Wayne State Supply Chain Case Competition this fall.

This prestigious competition involved over 21 universities, of which included five international universities (China, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico, and Poland).

The competition introduced students to the issues and challenges in producing technology vehicles through a case study. Students analyzed various topics such as component purchasing strategy, production capacity and planning, global vs. domestic sourcing, and logistics and risk management.

Each team is provided the case a month before the competition and then are invited to present their original case solution.Blake Andert, Allison Bauman, Andrea Hedstrom, and Dominik Olownia, were all chosen to represent UND at the 2017 competition. After presenting their case solution at regionals they were chosen to advance to the finals where they were given a slight twist to the situation.

The UND team members expressed that it was great to see how UND’s program stacks up to other programs that have over 1000 students with their major only having 35 students.

With the team spending 130+ hours working on their presentation, it no doubt shows the determination and work ethic that our students possess.

This is another testament on the quality and caliber of our students at the UND College of Business & Public Administration and how we continue to be Leaders in Action!
