MOODY M. FARHART

Moody M. Farhart, 90, died April 17, 2017 at the Eckstein Center – Hospice of the Valley, Scottsdale, Arizona.

He was born near Ross, North Dakota on December 22, 1926, the son of Boalley and Rose (Lynch) Farhart. He was the fourth of eleven children.

From 1950-1952, he served in the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. For his service, he received a Certificate of Merit.

Upon honorable discharge, he attended the University of North Dakota. In 1957, he earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree and in 1959, he earned his Juris Doctorate Degree. At UND, he held memberships in the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

In 1959, Moody came to Minot and opened up his law practice. During this time, he served as police magistrate and, for two years as Ward County Assistant States Attorney. He practiced law for nearly 50 years. Following his retirement, he moved to Anthem, Arizona.

He married Bonnie Jean Johnson in Fargo on December 19, 1966. They had two children, Matthew Clark and Elizabeth Jean. Later in life, they adopted their granddaughter, Alexandria.

Moody was a long time member of the First Lutheran Church in Minot. He was an active member of the American North Dakota and Ward County Bar Associations, the American Trial Lawyers Association, Minot Exchange Club, Elks, Moose lodges, Magic City Toastmasters, YMCA, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the William G. Carroll Post of the American Legion in Minot. In the 1960’s, he was named Commander of the Legion Post.

He especially loved his family, the land and his law practice. Moody lit up a room when he entered it. He was quick - witted, loyal and extremely generous. He loved going into the Courtroom and engaging in lively debate.

Moody is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie, son, Matthew, Anthem, AZ, daughters, Elizabeth (Brad), Scottsdale, AZ and Alexandria, Phoenix, AZ, grandson, Ben, sisters, Rita Terhune (Frank), Bolivar, MS, Ida Brewer (John), Kingsland, TX, Louise Edland (Jim), Pilot Point, TX, brothers, Joe Farhart, Minot, ND, Hap Farhart, Laguna Vista, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ann, Nora and Nedde, and brothers, Al and Denny.

Funeral Service: Monday, April 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Oliver Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, North Dakota.

Interment: Waldheim Cemetery, Kathryn, North Dakota.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Eckstein Center – Hospice of the Valley, 9808 N. 95th Street, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85258.
