Abstract
Oral history interview with Lyle Shafer of the 8th Air Force, 390th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Force, during the Second World War. Shafer was captured by the German Luftwaffe near Nuremberg, Germany in 1944 and was imprisoned in the Stalag Luft I POW camp near Barth, Germany. Shafer was liberated by Soviet troops in May 1945.
Lyle Shafer was born on 14 January 1924 in Gettysburg, Ohio, and died on 22 March 2005.
