Christine Garang
Naturalized in 2018
Photographic portrait documenting Christine Garang's participation in the Constitution Day Project.
Kitenge: A Traditional Material in East African cultures used to create outfits. The material comes in different patterns and vibrant colors. The print is mostly used in women’s outfits, but it can be used in men’s shirts to create a unified couple's outfit. Additionally, kitenge can also be used by women to carry their babies. This has been passed down from mother to daughter for ages. Kitenge can also be used by women to wrap around their waist when they are doing chores around the house. Women feel freer when they wrap it around their waist.
