In this audiovisual recording from Friday, March 25, 2022, as part of the 53rd Annual UND Writers Conference: “Communities and the Individual,” Kelli Jo Ford reads the short stories “The Year 2003 Minus 20” and “Annie Mae” from her larger work Crooked Hallelujah. Ford also responds to audience questions about when and why she started writing, how her family reacts to her writing, the choice to write about different characters each experiencing the same traumatic event in different ways, the inspiration of the dialogue in Crooked Hallelujah, the inclusion of homosexual characters and relationships in the novel, and the movement, migration, and restlessness of the various characters in the novel.
