Description
In this audiovisual recording from Friday, March 27, 1998, as part of the 29th Annual UND Writers Conference: “the use of [HISTORY],” John Hanson delivers a lecture about his work as a filmmaker and the literature of the upper plains that inspires him. Hanson reads an excerpt from Bill Kittredge's Hole in the Sky, Tom McGrath's poem “Remembering Loves and Deaths” from Waiting for the Angel, and an excerpt from Kathleen Norris's Dakota. Hanson also discusses film as a storytelling medium, his experience making Northern Lights, his work with other film projects, and working with well-known actors. Hanson also responds to audience questions about the film industry, the Nonpartisan League in North Dakota, and working with independent studios.
