Leander "Russ" McDonald

Dr. Russ McDonald was named President of United Tribes Technical College in October, 2014. Formerly the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Candeska Cikana Community College, he has taught, conducted research, and administered grants at the University of North Dakota, with a focus on Native health care.
At UND, Dr. McDonald served in the Sociology Department, School of Medicine & Health Science, Center for Rural Health, and the National resource Center on Native American Aging. During his one-year chairmanship of the Spirit Lake Tribe, he lobbied for child safety, pursued reforms in tribal governance, and advocated for equity in the tribe's compensation system. McDonald has also served as Great Plains Area Vice President for the National Congress of American Indians.
