UND University Band and Percussion Ensemble to present a ‘pops’ concert Tuesday, April 28

Abstract

The University of North Dakota University Band and Percussion Ensemble will present a “pops” concert at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, in the Memorial Union Ballroom.

Tickets will be available at the door and will cost $6 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens or $12 per family.

Free pop and popcorn will be provided.

The theme of this year’s concert is “Music from Around the World.”

The University Band, conducted by James Popejoy, Kara Hartten, graduate conductor; and Samantha Bonsness, undergraduate conductor; will perform music from Argentina, Austria, Canada, Switzerland, Russia and the United States.

Featured student soloists will be Caleb Fritel, xylophone; Paul Millette, vibraphone; and Vinicius Sant’Ana, violin.

The Percussion Ensemble, led by UND Professor Michael Blake and Fritel, a graduate assistant director, will include in their program works by Chris Brooks, Owen Condon, William Schinstine and Aram Khachaturian.

The ensembles will combine to close the program with a performance of "Mambo Cubano."
