Abstract

Faculty, staff, and students gathered at the University Park shelter Monday evening to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year and to welcome incoming students who have just joined the college. It was several hours of fun in the sun as everyone shared stories of the summer break and became reacquainted with others after a long summer.

Lucy Heintz, Director of Office of Student Services and Marlys Escobar, Academic Advisor and Recruitment Specialist, headed up the event. They organized a BBQ buffet of meats, salads, chips, and light desserts for all to enjoy. Every year the go above and beyond their duties to ensure all within the college can enjoy the picnic, and this year was no exception.

As is tradition, the Nursing Student Association held a fund raiser with sur-pie-sing results! Each year, faculty are nominated to be pied in front of everyone who attends. Barb Boguslawski, Karren Semmens, and Rennae Millette all agreed to be part of the fun. Each had a donation jar baring their name, and every dollar donated to their jar counted as a vote for being honored with a pieing.

Although Barb and Karen received several votes, Rennae won the contest in a landslide. Gayle Roux, the new Dean of the CNPD, volunteered to be pied as well as she didn't want Rennae to have all the fun to herself. "This really is an important activity, as it encourages everyone to remember the importance of donating to our programs."

The Nursing Student Association raised over $120 through the activity.
