Abstract
Jeffrey C. Sun, associate professor of educational leadership at the University of North Dakota, has been appointed to the Association for the Study of Higher Education Board of Directors.
Sun is a nationally recognized expert in higher education law with one of the leading casebooks in the field. He is also a former awardee of UND's University graduate teaching award. While balancing his teaching and research commitments, Professor Sun continues to expand UND's presence by contributing to his professional field. Already, Professor Sun serves on the Board of Directors for the Education Law Association, editor of Legal Links, an editorial board member for the Education Law & Policy Review and Westlaw's Education Law Reporter, co-editor of the Law & Education Series for Information Age Publishing, and an executive board member for the Law & Education group within the American Educational Research Association.
Robert Hill, the dean of the College of Education & Human Development, said: "Dr. Sun is a top scholar in legal issues in higher education. His leadership role in AHE will enhance the visibility and national reputation of the UND College of Education and Human Development."
As a member of the Association for the Study of Higher Education Board of Directors, Professor Sun will be the principal advisor to the board on budget, finance, and strategic planning efforts. This role suits Sun well given his past work experience as Director of Academic Affairs at Columbia University's Teachers College, a board member and finance committee participant for another academic association, and UND instructor of courses addressing organizational leadership, finance, and planning.
"We are very pleased with Dr. Sun's appointment to the ASHE board," said Tom Steen, interim chair of the UND Department of Educational Leadership. "Jeff is a proven national leader in higher education law and policy, and he is also widely respected here on campus as a first-rate scholar and an excellent teacher. I'm sure he will put that experience and expertise to good use on the board."
Sun received an MBA from Loyola Marymount University, a law degree from the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, and an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.
