Abstract
Follow the group's day-by-day progress on its travel blog
The University of North Dakota Concert Choir is touring Cuba this month.
The group officially arrived in Cuba on Tuesday, after a brief stop in Miami. It began the long journey south right after a riveting performance of UND's "Alma Mater" and the "America the Beautiful" at the school's General Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 17, at the Alerus Center.
The choir has been updating its travel exploits in a day-by-bay travel blog since leaving Grand Forks.
The choir is in Cuba to interact with the many great local choirs as a result of a recent partnership with the American Choral Directors Association and Cuba.
In Cuba, the UND Concert Choir will be preforming alone and with local groups as well as attend educational clinics, workshops and cross-cultural exchanges with local universities and music conservatories.
Joshua Bronfman, conductor of the UND Concert Choir said, "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the rich musical tradition of a culture in relative isolation from the rest of the world. There is no place like Cuba on the earth, and few Americans get a chance to visit."
The UND Concert Choir will perform, by invitation, with the National Choir of Cuba and Coro Exaudi, both professional choirs in Havana, and tour Cuba, singing in various venues, as well as learn about Cuban culture and history.
Read more about the preparation and see daily updates from the Cuban tour by following the choir's blog.
The group is expected to depart Cuba on May 27.
