Abstract

Annual Community Wellness Event in Arthur was held on Saturday, April 12th. Residents from the area came to the local school for free health screenings and information on health issues. Students and faculty from the Departments of Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Counseling Psychology participated at the event.

Screenings included vision, blood pressure, blood glucose, audiometric hearing, and body composition. Demonstrations on CPR, home safety, first aid, and cooking were also held. Mental health was addressed through a session on "Beating the Blues" which provided information for caregivers on what signs of depression to monitor for and how to cope with depression.

The primary age group of participants were those over 75, with a strong showing of persons between the ages of 65-74.

Locally, multiple organizations teamed up with UND officials to support the event. Community of Care, Cass County, Cass County Sheriff's Office, EMTs, and the Good Samaritan Society also had displays on hand informing residents of the local services that are available on a regular basis.

The CNPD wishes to thank everyone who donated time, resources, and personnel to the event.
