UND students perform at state choral director’s conference

Abstract

Twelve female members of the University of North Dakota Choral Music Department rehearsed and performed at the North Dakota American Choral Director's Association Conference Friday, Jan. 31 - Feb. 1, at Grand Forks Central High School.

The event involved female singers from UND, North Dakota State and multiple high schools around North Dakota. The singers rehearsed with one of the country's most respected female conductors, Sigrid Johnson, an artist in residence at St. Olaf College. Then, to close the event, they performed a concert.

UND Choral Music Department singers included Sara Otteman Bray, graduate student vocal performance & choral conducting; Katie Morgan from Thompson, N.D., senior, music education; Maria Liebler-Irwin, Bismarck, N.D., junior, music education; Katie Holleman, Hawley, Minn., freshman, music education; Brianna Becks, Grand Forks, N.D., freshman, music education; Abbie Christianson, Fargo, N.D., freshman, music therapy; Jacy Thibert, Manvel, N.D., junior, music education; Lynneah Thompson, Grand Forks, N.D., sophomore, music education; Mary Lockett, sophomore, music education; Kaylee Lackman, Center, N.D., junior, music education; Rachel Iiams, Grand Forks, N.D., freshman, music education and Jill Ames, Grand Forks, N.D., sophomore, music therapy.

The honor to work with one of the best and perform together, for most of these aspiring choir directors, was an opportunity of a lifetime, said Melanie Popejoy, associate director of choral activities.
