Abstract

The College of Education & Human Development at the University of North Dakota invites the general public to participate in the newly created "Educate Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere (AAA) Lecture Series." The first speaker is Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota superintendent of schools, and she will be joined by a fourth-grade class from Lake Agassiz Elementary School in Grand Forks. The lecture will be on TUESDAY, Oct. 29, 1:30 p.m., at the Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks.

A mission of the AAA Lecture Series is to learn about providing access across the rural state of North Dakota, and across the country. These lectures will be live streamed to other universities and colleges and even some schools in the state. A viewing party will be held on the UND campus to give students an opportunity to hear Superintendent Baesler speak without having to leave campus.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to combine 'teaching moments' for lecture attendees and the fourth grade students who will be joining me," Baesler said. "I always enjoy time spent with students and look forward to sharing this material with both audiences."

With today's innovative technologies and advanced learning platforms, anyone, anywhere, anytime in North Dakota and around the world, can get an education no matter their circumstance.

"We are living in the 21st century," said Bob Hill, dean of the UND College of Education and Human Development. "We are surrounded by opportunities for education simply by the technology that exists in our everyday world. The College of Education and Human Development is dedicated to extending the benefits of education to everyone in the state of North Dakota who desires to learn. The AAA Lecture Series is one way of looking at what opportunities exist."

Baesler was elected to the Mandan Public School Board in 2004 and served as its president from 2006 until stepping down after she was elected state superintendent. She served as southwest regional director for the North Dakota School Boards Association, was a governor-appointed member of the North Dakota Educational Technology Council, and has more than 10 years of experience working with North Dakota's state legislators and congressional delegation on public education policy.

A native of Flasher, N.D., Superintendent Baesler, earned two Associate degrees from Bismarck State College, her bachelor's degree in Education from Minot State University and her master's degree in Education and Library Information Technology from Valley City State University.

Superintendent Baesler makes her home in Mandan, where she serves her community as a board member for several local nonprofit organizations.
