Abstract

Each month we feature a "Student of the Month" who accents different aspects of the UND experience. These unique, and perhaps inspiring, stories give us a glimpse into the personal perspectives and memorable moments of each student’s time at The University of North Dakota.

Justin Gonzalez, UND Class of 2010, is our first Student of the Month. This past December, Justin achieved his lifelong goal by graduating from UND with a bachelor's degree in aviation. But his story doesn’t end there.

This San Antonio, Texas, native did a lot more than learn how to fly while attending UND. While tackling his demanding aviation major, Justin took advantage of on-campus job opportunities and kept up his personal interest in computers while working as a computer technician at UND's ResNet. He also wanted to learn about videography. So, Justin applied for a part-time job as a cameraman working for UND's award-winning Studio One. Working alongside professional videographers, Justin's camera skills and knowledge improved quickly. So much so that in his junior year, he began working as a part-time videographer for Grand Forks' television station, WDAZ-TV. His willingness and enthusiasm to explore new things showed him The University of North Dakota from many angles - from thousands of feet in the air, to behind a camera lens.

After four years of studying, working, and developing skills from the technical to the creative, Justin crossed the stage at Winter Commencement. His family made the long trip from Texas to cheer him on - the first person in his family to graduate from college. With strong family support and a solid education, Justin is now looking forward to a career in aviation.

Justin Gonzalez is extremely proud of his decision to attend UND, and UND is proud of him in return.

Congratulations to Justin Gonzalez and the entire UND Class of 2010!
