Abstract

The University of North Dakota's Department of Theatre Arts presents the musical "Urinetown," Nov. 8-10, and Nov. 15-17 at 7:30 p.m., in the Burtness Theatre.

"Urinetown" is a satirical musical comedy that brings the fun with tap dance numbers and by paying homage to and poking fun at other famous shows.

"Urinetown" takes place in a decaying town suffering from drought and water shortages for the past 20 years. Private bathrooms are outlawed and residents have to pay to use the restroom. The restrooms are run by Caldwell B. Caldwell, the man in charge of corporate giant Urine Good Company.

If citizens are caught relieving themselves in public or not paying the fee, they are sent away to Urinetown. Going by the name, probably not a desirable vacation spot, but still possibly better than a certain creek no one ever brings a paddle too.

This show addresses the social concerns of the town through the story of young lovers, caught in the middle of political intrigue. It is a world where a few rich rule over the majority through fear, until Bobby Strong, a rebellious protagonist, decides to start a revolution. And to make matters interesting, or complicated, he falls in love with Hope Caldwell along the way.

Come support the theatre arts department and enjoy the laughs and music.

Curtain is at 7:30. Tickets are available at the Box Office: 701.777.2587. Adult tickets are $20 and student tickets are $10.
