Abstract
Last year's production of "My Generation" by the University of North Dakota's Theatre Arts Department is being held for consideration for a regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival that will take place in in Lincoln, Neb., in January. The final selection of invited productions will not be made until December so keep your fingers crossed for UND's student thespians. Should "My Generation" be invited, UND Theatre Arts will restage the show in the Chester Fritz auditorium in January the week before the festival.
The Kennedy Center sponsors eight regional festivals across the country to celebrate college and university theater. Students attend the festival to compete for scholarships in acting, design, directing, stage management, playwrighting and other areas of theater. Students are immersed in theater for a week with productions from across the region, workshops with professionals and summer job auditions.
"It is a grand week for making connections and exploring a life in theater," said Kathleen McLennen, head of the UND Theatre Arts Department, about the Kennedy Center festival.
McLennen said taking a full production of a musical on the road will have significant costs, and fund-raising efforts likely will be announced if the department is notified that its production will be included in the festival.
