Abstract

University of North Dakota College of Business & Public Administration (CoBPA) Assistant Professor and Burwell Endowed Chair, Xaver Neumeyer, recently received a national award—The Entrepreneurship Practice Award— from the Entrepreneurship Division at the Academy of Management. The award-winning publication was titled, “A Portfolio Perspective on Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.” Neumeyer wrote the article with two co-authors, Dr. Michael H. Morris and Dr. Donald Kuratko.

“In this paper, we were really looking at a bandwidth of entrepreneurship ventures and how they’re connected, so really bringing entrepreneurship to a very broad level,” said Neumeyer. “Saying that a lot of people can be very entrepreneurial, and the businesses that they’re building contribute to the economy one way or another,” he added.

Neumeyer said he knew his paper had been nominated, but he did not necessarily expect to win.

“We had to compete not only with other really good authors, but also other good journals. So we didn’t know if we had a realistic chance. But yeah, we were very happy and we were actually pretty surprised,” said Neumeyer.

Neumeyer has worked at the UND CoBPA School of Entrepreneurship since 2016.
