Gov. Doug Burgum has appointed Benjamen J. Johnson of Tioga to fill the Northwest Judicial District judge vacancy created by the retirement of Judge David Nelson.
Johnson is a University of North Dakota School of Law graduate and was admitted to the N.D. bar in 2008.
Six lawyers originally applied for the position.
Under Article 6, § 13, of the North Dakota Constitution, Johnson "shall continue in the position until the next general election immediately following the service of at least two years.
