Abstract

BISMARCK, N.D. --- Republican Jon Godfread has been elected Insurance Commissioner over his Democrat and Libertarian opponents.

“I truly believe that the insurance industry is one of the most important industries we have because it affects each one of us. It is abundantly clear that insurance plays a significant role in our lives. Insurance is about peace of mind regarding the future of our families. Insurance does much more than protect you from catastrophe and provide financial stability, it provides protection and stability to our economy, which gives us the ability to innovate and to expand into areas we would never dream. There are many opportunities ahead for the Insurance Department to serve North Dakotans better than ever, and that’s why I am so excited to get started.

“I would like to thank my opponents, Ruth Buffalo and Nick Bata, for their campaigns. We need to ensure we have quality leadership across our great state, so it’s important that good people put their hat in the ring to serve.

“I would also like to thank my family for all the support and encouragement they gave throughout the last year. With two young children at home and a busy campaign schedule on top of our day jobs, there was never a dull moment.”

Godfread, who currently serves as vice president of the Greater North Dakota Chamber in Bismarck, will be sworn in as North Dakota’s Insurance Commissioner in January 2017.
