Abstract

Jeff Dodson has joined the UND Alumni Association & Foundation as Director of Development for the College of Arts & Sciences.

The former head coach of UND Baseball has moved from team-building in baseball to team-building for the College.

“I’m really looking forward to this challenge,” Dodson said. “Everything I did as a coach, I do now. I just do it differently. Teams are good because of people and relationships. I develop relationships, whether it’s with players or donors.”

His focus will be on raising funds to endow scholarships and professorships.

“Given Jeff’s previous role at UND, he brings a student-centered approach to philanthropy,” said Debbie Storrs, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. “He is excited to meet with our dedicated alums to share ways they can support Arts & Sciences students. We appreciate and welcome the continued support of alums who help support student scholarships and undergraduate research opportunities. These gifts make a significant impact on the student experience.”

“I’d always heard about the passion, energy, and vision that the Alumni Association and Foundation had for UND,” Dodson said. “It stands out every day, and it’s great to see the passion people have for UND. At the end of the day, it’s about students having a great experience. My goal is to raise funds for scholarships and make it easier for students to go to school.”

Known for turning around the UND baseball program, Dodson spent eight years as head coach, taking the team to Division I and building a powerhouse that resulted in postseason tournament wins and multiple players turning pro. His students boasted a 3.0-plus GPA for nine of the last 10 semesters. The program was eliminated in a round of budget cuts in spring 2016.

A native of Alabama, Dodson earned his associate’s degree from Bevill State Community College, bachelor’s degree from Livingston University, and master’s degree from Emporia State, all in physical education. He served as head coach at Martin Methodist College in Tennessee, head coach at Bevill State Community College, and as an associate scout with the Philadelphia Phillies.

His wife, Jodi, is a teacher at South Middle School in Grand Forks, and he has two stepchildren, Ryan and Julia. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and coaching fast-pitch softball. He also volunteers for charity events.
