Abstract

University of North Dakota College of Business and Public Administration alumnus and President/CEO of Alerus Financial, Randy Newman, was named the 2016 EY Upper Midwest Entrepreneur of the Year this June. Newman was nominated by Salo LLC and was one of nine winners. In an acceptance speech video on EY’s website, Newman says he’s very proud of what Alerus has done as a company—but he’s especially proud of how they conduct themselves. Other award recipients include Kris Kowalski Christiansen and Mary Anne Kowalski of Kowalski’s Companies (Woodbury, Minn.); Douglas M. Baker, Jr. of Ecoblab, Inc. (St. Paul, Minn.); and Jim Kelly, ThreeBridge Solutions, LLC (Minneapolis, Minn.). Newman is the only recipient from the state of North Dakota.
