Abstract

The University of North Dakota is gearing up for the start of the new fall semester next Monday and has a host of events and activities scheduled for the coming week. Residence hall move-in begins Friday when UND’s Welcome Weekend kicks off.

Friday

9 a.m., Residence hall move-in – The Hall Orientation Team (HOT), a student-run housing organization, will assist students and their families with moving in.

1 p.m., UND women’s soccer game vs. South Dakota, Bronson Field.

5-7 p.m., Sub sandwich feed, Wilkerson Dining Center, Squires Dining Center, Swanson Lobby and Conference Center Lobby – Students and families are invited to this free meal.

7 p.m., President’s reception for families, Chester Fritz Auditorium – President Robert and First Lady Marcia Kelley and the UND Family Association host a reception for students and their families.

Saturday

10 a.m., Presidential Scholar brunch and recognition ceremony, Alerus Conference Center – Hosted by President Kelley to recognize UND’s incoming Presidential Scholars and their parents (invitation only).

1-5:45 p.m., Orientation Sessions – Students and families attend orientations sessions on campus life, panels to answer family’s questions and help finding their classes.

5-7 p.m., Barbecue and carnival, Wilkerson Dining Center patio – Students and their families are invited to a complimentary BBQ with games.

8 p.m.-12 a.m., Night Life at UND, Wellness Center – UND student ambassadors host the first Night Life event of the school year, one of the most popular weekend activities.

The following offices will be open from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m: Admissions, Graduate School, Parking, Registrar’s, Student Account Services, Student Financial Aid, Student Health Services, Student Success Center and Veteran & Military Services. Housing will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., the UND Bookstore from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and the U Card Office from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Sunday

12 p.m., Find Your Classes, Memorial Union Info Desk – Student ambassadors will be available to help students locate their classes on campus.

12-7 p.m., UND Bookstore open

2-4 p.m., UND Housing Office open

7-8:30 p.m., hypnotist Kim Bromley, Chester Fritz Auditorium – Entertainment sponsored by the Hall Orientation Team.

9 p.m., Welcome Weekend Street Dance – Dance featuring Johnny Green and the Greenman behind the Memorial Union on Second Avenue North for incoming students and the UND community.

Monday

Fall semester registration begins.

9 a.m., Chester Fritz Auditorium tickets go on sale – The Chester Fritz box office will begin selling tickets for the auditorium’s 39th season of entertainment. Upcoming shows will feature Broadway theater, comedy and family entertainment.

11 a.m-12 p.m., What is Advising? Introduction to Departmental Advising – Students attend sessions with advisors based on their intended majors.

12-4 p.m., Nontraditional Student Open House, Memorial Union – Hosted by the Student Success Center

2:15-3:30 p.m., Find Your Classes, Memorial Union Info Desk – Student ambassadors will be available to help students find the locations of their classes.

UND evening classes start at 4 p.m.

Tuesday

UND begins first full day of fall semester classes.

Wednesday

10 a.m.-3 p.m. – Involvement Expo, Memorial Union. Approximately 175 campus departments, student organizations, local businesses and non-profits host tables providing giveaways and information about activities in which students can participate.
