Abstract

Governor Jack Dalrymple has appointed James D. Gion , Regent, to fill the Southwest Judicial District judgeship vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Zane Anderson.

“James brings to the bench an outstanding record of service and a wealth of legal experience that will be a great benefit to the citizens served by the Southwest Judicial District,” Dalrymple said in a news release. "I am confident that James will bring to the bench the same sense of fairness and respect for the law that has defined his career."

The other finalists for the appointment were Glen Bruhschwein and Michael Hurly. Four lawyers originally applied for the position.

Under Article 6, § 13, of the North Dakota Constitution the new judge "shall continue in the position until the next general election immediately following the service of at least two years."
