Abstract

Kara Johnson has been named Disciplinary Counsel effective Aug. 10. She had served as acting disciplinary counsel since the June 14 resignation of Brent Edison.

Johnson was appointed Assistant Disciplinary Counsel for the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court and Judicial Conduct Commission in 2013.

A native of West Fargo, Johnson received her B.A. in Communications from the University of Minnesota in 2005, and her J.D., with distinction, from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2008.

Before joining the Disciplinary Counsel’s office, Johnson practiced for five years with the Bismarck law firm of Zuger Kirmis & Smith, where her primary focus was civil litigation.

Johnson has been active in the State Bar Association of North Dakota, serving as a member of the Joint Committee on Attorney Standards, President of the Women Lawyers Section and Chair of the Mentorship Task Force.

In her spare time, Johnson coaches Special Olympics. She also enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
