Description
Cartoon depicts "U Thant" atop a wagon, "UN Express," pulled by a donkey named "Our Share" down the road toward "Peace." The donkey is amazed to meet a small rabbit named "Theirs." U Thant was appointed Secretary-General of the United Nations in 1961 at a time when the United Nations was facing a financial crisis. The United Nations issued bonds which caused division among the countries. The United States saw the bonds as a one-time emergency measure to prevent bankruptcy. The Soviet Union and France argued that the proposal was a maneuver to enable the United Nations to engage in peace-keeping activities.
