Artist Bio

Born in Port-au-Prince, Rose-Marie Desruisseau studied at Haiti's Academy of Fine Arts. Winning many awards during her career, she was among Haiti's major female artists.

Desruisseau began painting at a young age as can be noted by the exhibition’s inclusion of a youthful cubist-style work, executed when she was only about nineteen. Later, in the 1960s, she favored Vodou themes.
