Born in Bismarck and raised in Mandan, North Dakota, Jeff Freeman received his BS degree from Minnesota State University-Moorhead in 1970 and his MFA from UND in 1972. He later received a second MFA (in painting) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980.
Freeman taught in the Art Department at the University of South Dakota from 1980-2011, when he retired after 31 years. His work is included in collections of the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska, The Sheldon Memorial Gallery of Art in Lincoln, The Plains Art Museum in Fargo, The South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings, and in numerous other permanent collections.
