Bill Haney, U.S. Army Air Force: Stalag Luft 1, Germany, World War II
Oral history interview with John William "Bill" Haney of the U.S. Army Air Force during the Second World War. Haney was shot down over Germany in July 1944 and was imprisoned at Stalag Luft 1, near Barth, Germany. The camp was liberated by the Russian army in early May 1945.
Bill Haney was born in Minneapolis on 6 October 1922 and died in Arizona on 4 January 2006.
Kriegieland was a video documentary series examining the experiences of Prisoners of War (POWs) from the Second World War and the Korean War. Elmer Lian, himself a POW in Germany during World War II, hosted the series, which was produced by the UND AeroSpace Network.
