164th Infantry Photographs

The 164th Infantry Regiment was the North Dakota National Guard in the Second World War. The Regiment was assigned to the Americal Division and became the first U.S. Army unit to engage in offensive action against the Japanese when it landed on Guadalcanal on 13 October 1942. The Regiment then fought at Bougainville in 1943 and 1944, as well as in the Philippines in 1945 .

These photographs are part of the 164th Infantry Association Records, an archival collection in the Elwyn B. Robinson Department of Special Collections in the Chester Fritz Library.

Many of the people and locations in the photographs are unidentified. Please contact the Department of Special Collections if you can provide any identifications.
