Description
"The setting shows a ice harvesting crew of the Grand Forks Ice Co., lined up in the forefront of one of the blocks of ice houses. All the ice houses occupied the two block area outlined by Lincoln Drive and Plum, Euclid, Parkeham Avenues. When there were no refrigerators, as such, ice was used in the summer for cooking purposes. Some 12,000 tons of ice would be cut from the river at Lincoln Park. A team of horses and sled(s) would haul the ice to the ice houses where it was packed in saw dust. Photo taken in 1918." (from back of the photograph)
