Description
This 1974 black-and-white photograph captures a nighttime view of the DeMers Avenue overpass and the adjacent BNSF railyard that runs along the south end of downtown. Looking north from DeMers Avenue on the curving overpass as it ascends into the background towards downtowns it's illuminated by an array of tall streetlights that cast dramatic starburst patterns against the dark night sky and reflects in the puddles of water on the ground.
To the left, a long line of freight train cars sit on the tracks below, highlighting the intersection of rail and automotive transit infrastructure in the city during the mid-1970s.
The foreground consists mainly of an unpaved, muddy ground with water created puddles resting on many part of it's surface.
Running along the bottom border in a slight diagonal path is a sidewalk. In-between the sidewalk and bridge you can slightly make out the narrow road that runs under the bridge connecting Fourth Avenue South to Demers Avenue.
