    Description

Black-and-white photograph capturing a section of the downtown business corridor divided by a railroad crossing with lights and signs in the foreground. The right side of the street features Redwing's Uptown Recreational Center (displaying a prominent vertical neon sign reading "BOWLING / BAR & CAFE" and a horizontal "UPTOWN BAR" sign) with the Uptown Apartments located on the upper levels. Other visible businesses further down the right block include McGuire's Bar, Jet Printing Inc., Grand Cafe & Recreation, and the Frontier Bar. The left side of the street is anchored by the historic multi-story Gotzian Block, displaying a large painted brick advertisement for "Velvet Ice Cream," housing the Grand Forks Linoleum & Carpet Co. at street level and the Gotzian Block Apartments above. Further down the left block are the D A V-V F W Club (Disabled American Veterans-Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the Downtowner Motel.

Taking up most of the image is the three lanes that make up the one-way direction of traffic flow. The sides of the street are full with parallel parked vehicles that were common during the 1970s.
