Description
Photograph of Security Building, located at 101 North Third Street, circa 1923. Built in 1890 by George Clifford, the Security Building stood out in downtown Grand Forks thanks to its distinctive pink exterior. Over the years, it served as home to a variety of tenants, including the Northwestern College of Commerce, an architectural firm, the Knights of Pythias, the wholesale company C.H. Robinson, UND's law school, the YMCA, and, at various points, both city government offices and federal courts. In 1982 the Security Building was places on the National Register of Historic Places. At its demise the building housed a diverse group of tenants including a barber shop and a boxing organization. Its destruction came during the Grand Forks flood of 1997, when a devastating fire broke out inside the Security Building and quickly spread to 11 neighboring structures across three city blocks, causing incredible damage.
There are cars filling up the spots in front of build and around the side if the Security Building. On the left side going down Alpha Avenue you can see the Post Office & Court House and further down is Central School.
