Description
This black-and-white photograph from 1929 captures St. Mary's Catholic Church and School, located on 216 Belmont Road. The left side of the image features the prominent brick church building, showcasing beautiful architectural elements including a tall, pointed spire topped with a cross, a large rose window above the main entryway, and a three-arched front entrance. To the right stands the two-story brick school building, designed with large multi-pane windows. A single car is parked in front of the church and several children are seen on the front steps.
Positioned in the foreground plaza between the two buildings is a large 7-foot granite Union Soldier statue, Civil War Memorial Monument to the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic), standing atop a pedestal, surrounded by a small flower bed.
