Additional Information

From James Carley's notes: Large stoneware jar 16" high, heavy, with lug handles. The body is orange buff. The glaze is light gray-olive characteristic of Edgefield District, SC. Could possilby be by the Afro-American "Dave" (c. 1780-1863). The handles are also characteristic. There are iron spots. Chips on the rim. Purchased from John Burrison, Director, Museum of Georgia Folk Culture, Georgia State U., at the archives. There is a mark which John thinks was probably pressed from a wooden mold. Slightly less than 1/2" dia.
