From James Carley's notes: Stoneware jug 19" high with two strap handles. Olive black glaze. Tan where very thin. Elongated ovoid shape. The greatest diameter is slightly above half way. It may have been thrown in two sections and joined at this place. The surface is quite spotted for various reasons. There a few small chips due to stones in the body. The base is slightly concave, roughly finished. Mark: 5 scratched near the neck. Purchased from Lowman, Hickory NC.
