From James Carley's notes: Tall cylindrical jug, 18" high, with gray salt glaze, irregular in tone toward the base. Handle terminates with a strap and two applied "screw heads". The capacity mark is a 2 made up of coils pressed on. The top rim is flat. Hined with brown slip. Mark: lightly inscribed on the shoulder, Jacob Brown / Sept. 22, 1862. Shown in Indiana stoneware, Indpls. museum of art. 1974. See description in catalogue of the show. p. 13. Purchased Indianapolis antique show. Came from a farm near Zanesville.
