From James Carley's notes: Stoneware jug, 11 1/4" high. Salt glaze of a nice creamy color with a cobalt brushed floral painting. Mark: SIPE NICHOLS & CO./ Williamsport, Pa. impressed & filled with blue. Blue at handle terminals. The shape is an intermediate stage between the tapering sides of the early 19th c. and the straight sides of the later. The dates of the colaboration between Sipes and Nichols were 1865-7. Purchased Bickley's Antiques, Chambersburg, PA.
