Additional Information

From James Carley's notes: Stoneware jug 11 1/2" high, gray salt glaze, with dark blue brushed flower or leaf design underline mark: BENNINGTON FACTORY impressed and filled with blue. The woman who sold it to me in Vermon 1966 said that at the Bennington Museum they told her they knew of no other piece with this mark. See: Osgood, The Jug, pp. 98, 101,12,108,128, 192. Osgood concludes that pieces with this mark are very early, pre-1823. He has four pieces all with capaicty mark in blue. and the Bennington Museum has several.
