From James Carley's notes: Stoneware artifact of unknown purpose 11 1/4" high. Salt glaze on the side only, beginning about 2" down from the rim. Hole, 1" dia., in center of the base. Line decorations in blue slip. Incised wavey lines on the unglazed neck. Mark: 1979 incised thru blue slip near the base. Cracked and repaired. Is it part of a grave marker? Purchased from Clark Garrett at the Crutcher show, Indianapolis. Came from a farm near Zanesville.
