Description
In this audiovisual recording from Thursday, March 25, 2021, as part of the 52nd Annual UND Writers Conference: “Roots of the Earth,” Marie Mutsuki Mockett reads excerpts from American Harvest. Mockett begins with a slideshow presentation of various photos and images in order to give some context for American Harvest before she begins reading. Mockett also responds to audience questions about the difficulty of representing real people in a nonfiction work like American Harvest, what inspired her to take the trip and write about the experiences portrayed in American Harvest, the most challenging and most beneficial aspects of being an “outsider” while writing American Harvest, the relationship between those who live in the rural Heartland and those who live in cities, and how Justin’s education affected his experience with the other farm workers.
Introduced by Sarah Vogel.
