Description
In this audiovisual recording from Wednesday, March 24, 2021, as part of the 52nd Annual UND Writers Conference: “Roots of the Earth,” Melissa D. Birkhofer, Aylan Couchie, Marie Mutsuki Mockett, Sonia Shah participate in a panel called “Subsistence.” The panelists discuss what they think when they hear the word “subsistence,” how subsistence fits into their work, how they are reframing their work in terms of what is happening contemporarily, the ways in which their work has changed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change’s impact on species movement, how they understand the notion of land as site specific and as home versus the idea of deterritorialization and being separated from one’s homeland due to migration, among other topics.
Moderated by Dr. Melissa Birkhofer, Western Carolina University.
