Description
In this audiovisual recording from Thursday, March 21, 2019, as part of the 50th Annual UND Writers Conference: “What the Future Holds,” Heid E. Erdrich reads poems from the anthology New Poets of Native Nations, which she edited, as well as poems and excerpts from her books Cell Traffic and Little Big Bully. Erdrich also responds to audience questions about how she incorporates different types of time and presence into a sense of the future, whether she is able to capture spiritual experiences and ceremonies like sweat lodges in poetry, the role of fermentation in her culinary writing, her writing process, how she deals with strong emotions in her writing, and how being a professor has influenced her poetry.
Introduced by Jaycee Anderson and Amaya Grant.
