Description
In this audiovisual recording from Wednesday, March 20, 2019, as part of the 50th Annual UND Writers Conference: “What the Future Holds,” Patrick Martinez presents his artwork, including cake paintings and neon signs. He speaks on what has inspired him, where he’s from, and the people he grew up with. Martinez also responds to audience questions about the process of creating art with a power washer, how he deals with mixed messages in his art, how his cultural upbringing influenced his art, how he started applying the aesthetic of remix to his work, how he curated his neon work, possible parallels between his work and Andy Warhol’s, and whether any of his neon art hangs in establishments.
Introduced by Nicole Derenne, Department of Art & Design.
