Description
In this audiovisual recording from Thursday, March 22, 2018, as part of the 49th Annual UND Writers Conference: “Truth & Lies,” Nicholas Galanin speaks about his work and how experiences with the land shape it. Much of Galanin’s work is informed by Indigenous culture, specifically as an Indigenous person from Alaska. Galanin speaks about the commodification of Indigenous experiences and objects. Galanin also responds to audience questions about the location of his various pieces of work, whether he ever has the urge to destroy his art after he creates it, if Western knowledge could benefit from chaos or disorder, making art about his culture and heritage, and others.
Introduced by Hillary Kempenich.
